“I Am So Embarrassed, Let’s Do Something About It’ – young volunteers turn words into action for a cleaner Sierra Leone.

Young volunteers from various universities under the One Love Salone Foundation launched the “I Am So Embarrassed, Let’s Do Something About It” campaign to support city cleanliness. Inspired by reggae icon Sizzla Kalonji’s message, they gathered cleaning tools at Cotton Tree and cleaned Gloucester Street, Circular Road, Campbell Street, St. John, Savage Street, and Bus Halt.
The team demonstrated a strong belief that meaningful change and development must begin with young people. Their actions sparked curiosity and engagement among onlookers—business owners, passengers, drivers, school pupils, and residents—many of whom paused to learn more about the campaign.
The initiative was met with applause and encouragement from citizens who commended the volunteers not only for raising awareness, but for leading by example and showing practical steps everyone can take to maintain a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment for all.
This course is a continuous effort that will be extended to other parts of the City of Freetown and across the country as a whole.
